Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Calls for Unity Amid Regional Changes on Kurdistan Flag Day
Erbil, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called for Kurdish unity and a strong government to confront the rapid changes in the Middle East during a ceremony held at the Historical Erbil Citadel to mark Kurdistan Flag Day.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from various religious and ethnic communities in the Kurdistan Region, as well as Peshmerga forces and the families of martyrs. Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the symbolic importance of the Kurdistan flag, describing it as a representation of the Kurdish people's struggle and unity.
"The Kurdistan flag is a symbol of our struggle and unity. Therefore, every Kurd should proudly raise this flag," said Barzani, as he extended congratulations to the Kurdish people, the Peshmerga forces, and the families of martyrs.
Highlighting the region's current geopolitical situation, Barzani warned of the "rapid changes and sensitive events" taking place in the Middle East. He urged political forces in the Kurdistan Region to set aside their differences and adopt a unified stance. "A strong government must be formed to face these changes and continue serving the interests of the Kurdish people," he added.
Barzani also acknowledged the hardships faced by the Kurdish population, especially in light of financial pressures such as delayed salaries and withheld financial entitlements. He commended the Kurdish people's resilience and the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga forces, whom he described as defenders of the land and the nation.
"I also congratulate the heroic Peshmergas who have always been ready to sacrifice themselves to defend our land and country. They are on the frontline of our defense," Barzani stated.
Kurdistan Flag Day was first declared by the Kurdistan Parliament in 2009, designating December 17th as an annual day of celebration. Each year, events and ceremonies are held across the Kurdistan Region to honor the flag and the values it represents. The flag is seen as a national symbol of Kurdish identity, resistance, and unity.
