Bonn Hosts International Art Exhibition Featuring Kurdish Women Artists

A new international art exhibition titled “Women and Removing Stones for Peace” has opened in Bonn, featuring the works of 40 women artists from across the globe, including seven prominent Kurdish artists. The exhibition, which explores themes of peace and women’s experiences, will run until March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

The Kurdish artists contributing to the exhibition are Cihan Ibrahim, Zozan Mohammed, Begard Saatch, Sherihan Beklaro, Melek Mukhtar, Cihana Said, and Valentina Abdo. The exhibition is divided into seven sections, with the Kurdish artists presenting works that reflect the struggles and resilience of Kurdish women.

“Through this exhibition and through colors, we Kurdish artists have attempted to shed light on Kurdish women and their profound struggles, while drawing hope, building human connections, and establishing artistic and friendship bridges with other cultures,” said artist Cihan Ibrahim, who contributed eight pieces to the event.

The opening ceremony was attended by a diverse audience, including members of the local Kurdish community, German art enthusiasts, and international visitors. The event also featured performances by Kurdish musicians, including duduk player Walid Hemoto and pianist Can Diko, adding a cultural layer to the artistic experience.

Ibrahim expressed her satisfaction with the turnout and the positive reception, particularly from German attendees. “The encouraging response from different nationalities highlights the power of art in fostering understanding and dialogue,” she added.

The exhibition provides a significant platform for Kurdish women artists to showcase their work alongside their international peers. It addresses themes of peace, cultural understanding, and the unique experiences of women through visual arts, underscoring the contributions of Kurdish artists to contemporary global discussions.

In recent years, Kurdish artists have gained international recognition for their ability to tackle social and political themes through art. This exhibition in Bonn represents another milestone in amplifying the voices of Kurdish women on the global art stage.

Hosting the exhibition until International Women’s Day highlights the commitment to promoting women’s artistic expression and fostering cross-cultural dialogue through the arts.
