Kurdistan Regional Government PM Receives Japanese Ambassador, Highlights Bilateral Cooperation

Today, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, met with Japan's Ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, marking the end of the ambassador's diplomatic term in Iraq.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani expressed gratitude for Ambassador Matsumoto’s efforts to strengthen ties between Japan and the Kurdistan Region. He commended the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its developmental projects in the region, acknowledging Japan’s active role in supporting local development initiatives.

Ambassador Matsumoto reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding relations with the Kurdistan Region across multiple sectors. He emphasized that Japan values its partnership with the KRG and is keen to support further collaboration in fields such as infrastructure, education, and economic development.

The discussions also covered recent developments in Kurdistan, notably the successful completion of the Kurdistan Parliament elections. Both parties stressed the importance of expediting the formation of the new KRG ministerial cabinet to ensure smooth governance and continued progress for the region.
