KRG Ministry of Higher Education Accepts Over 44,000 Students in First Round of University Admissions

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has accepted more than 44,000 students in the first round of admissions for the 2024-2025 academic year, covering 96% of online applicants, according to Minister Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir. The announcement was made during a press conference, where Dr. Qadir provided details on the admission process and future plans for student placement.

"Approximately 1,700 students, or the remaining 4% of applicants, encountered technical difficulties during the application process. They will have another opportunity in the second round of admissions," Dr. Qadir assured, adding that the ministry is committed to a 100% placement rate this year. He noted that over 13,000 seats remain available across Kurdistan’s higher education institutions to meet this goal.

Dr. Khatab Shekhani, Director General at the Ministry, shared detailed statistics on the graduating high school class:

Total graduates: 56,130
Scientific stream: 41,277
Literary stream: 13,541
International schools: 410
Vocational education: 902

Dr. Shekhani highlighted that a total of 64,761 seats have been allocated for new university students this academic year. This comprehensive plan aims to ensure all high school graduates have access to higher education opportunities, a milestone for the Ministry.

Starting from 1:00 PM on Sunday, students can check their university placements through the online admission portal, Zankoline, for details on their assigned institutions. The Ministry’s efforts mark a significant step towards accommodating all eligible students and expanding access to higher education in the Kurdistan Region.
