Turkey Blocks Access to Discord Following Court Decision
Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has blocked access to the popular instant messaging platform Discord, following a recent court ruling. The move was confirmed by the country’s infotech regulator on Wednesday.
The decision comes as part of ongoing government efforts to regulate digital platforms. While the specific reason for the court's ruling remains unclear, it is part of a broader trend of increasing online restrictions in Turkey.
Discord, widely used for gaming, social networking, and communication, joins a growing list of platforms that have faced temporary or permanent bans in the country. Turkish authorities have previously restricted access to social media sites and messaging platforms, citing national security concerns and the need to combat misinformation.
As of Wednesday, Turkish users attempting to access Discord encountered service interruptions, sparking a wave of complaints and calls for clarification on social media. Discord has yet to issue an official statement in response to the ban.
