Flights Resume at Erbil International Airport Following Airspace Closure

Flights between Erbil and international destinations have resumed after a temporary suspension due to the closure of Iraqi and Kurdistan airspace, Ahmad Wishyar, Director of Erbil International Airport, confirmed on Thursday.

Wishyar told Kurdistan 24 that flight operations had returned to normal, following a disruption that began on Tuesday evening. The suspension occurred after Iraqi authorities closed the airspace in response to an Iranian missile attack on Israel. The airport is now coordinating with the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority to reschedule flights affected by the closure.

"Flights have returned to normal," Wishyar said, though he did not specify how many flights were canceled during the disruption.

The closure, which began around 8:00 p.m. on October 1, followed an Iranian missile barrage targeting Israel. Iraqi Transport Minister Razzaq Saadawi announced that airports across Iraq had reopened on Wednesday night once the attack ended.

The Israeli military reported that Iran launched approximately 180 missiles at Israel, a significantly larger assault compared to the attack in April when 110 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles were fired.

With flights now resumed, Erbil International Airport is working to minimize further delays for travelers.
