Kurdistan Regional Government Enhances Rural Infrastructure, Facilitating Farmers' Access to Markets

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has intensified its efforts to support farmers and rural residents as part of its ongoing strategy to improve infrastructure and daily life in the region's villages. A key aspect of this initiative is the development of rural roads, enabling farmers to transport their agricultural products to markets more efficiently and quickly.

Local villagers and farmers have expressed their appreciation for these efforts. “Since the time of the Ba'ath regime, essential services never reached our villages. But now, with the renewal and paving of the roads, we can easily deliver our products to markets,” said one farmer.

As part of a broader infrastructure development plan, the KRG has focused on improving transportation links throughout the region. This includes the construction of roads and bridges to facilitate movement between cities, towns, and rural areas.

Official statistics highlight that the government has completed 585 road projects to date, 75 of which are classified as strategic. An additional 291 projects are currently underway. Among the completed projects, 1,363 kilometers of new roads have been constructed, at a total cost exceeding 930 billion Iraqi dinars. These roads have been paved using over 11 million square meters of asphalt.

The KRG's continued investment in rural infrastructure is seen as a key driver in boosting agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of those living in remote areas of the region.
