Kurdistan Regional Government Launches Strategic Qushtapa Water Project

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, officially laid the foundation stone today for the Qushtapa Water Project, a significant infrastructure initiative in Erbil Province. The project, backed by the Prime Minister’s support, is expected to cost 189.67 billion Iraqi dinars.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism, alongside the General Directorate of Water and Sewage in Erbil, will oversee the execution of this vital project. In its first phase, water will be drawn from the Lesser Zab River near the village of Qashqawa. This water will undergo purification before being delivered to residents in the Qushtapa area in subsequent stages.

The project will utilize carbon steel pipes, 800 mm in diameter and stretching 38 kilometers, to transport water to the region. Once completed, it is expected to provide 72,000 cubic meters of clean drinking water per day, improving daily life and boosting the agricultural and industrial sectors in the surrounding areas.

The Qushtapa Water Project is seen as a major step in addressing the region's water needs and promoting sustainable development across Erbil Province.
