KRG Abolishes Customs Duties on Electric Vehicles in New Financial Relief Initiative
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has officially instructed the Ministry of Finance and Economy to eliminate customs duties on electric vehicles, reducing the import tax by 100%. This decision comes as part of a broader initiative led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani aimed at easing financial pressures on citizens.
The directive, formalized under Decree 3393, also suspends taxes on certain businesses, including restaurants and hotels rated fourth grade and above. This suspension aligns with provisions in the federal budget law and a recent resolution by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
Kamal Warti, Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, confirmed the decision during a press conference, stating that the exemptions will remain in place until the relevant laws are revised in the next session of the Kurdistan Parliament.
This policy change is part of the KRG's ongoing efforts to support environmental sustainability by encouraging the use of electric vehicles, while simultaneously reducing the financial burden on businesses and citizens across the region.
