KRG Launches Strategic Qushtapa Water Project to Address Water Shortages in Erbil

Under the direction of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the strategic Qushtapa Water Project is set to be implemented, providing a vital solution to the water shortages faced by Qushtapa and surrounding villages in Erbil province. The project, overseen by the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and the General Directorate of Water and Sewerage, will produce 72,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day.

With a budget of 189 billion 670 million dinars, the Qushtapa Water Project is considered one of the major strategic projects of the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism, fully funded by the KRG. Work is expected to commence soon, with a fast-tracked timeline for completion.

According to Ari Ahmad, Director General of Water and Sewerage at the Ministry, the project includes three large reservoirs, strategically located, including one in the forest and another in Qushtapa. This infrastructure will ensure that water is distributed to Qushtapa, Bestana, and over 60 surrounding villages.

The project is expected to not only solve the water crisis in these areas but also boost industrial activity and agriculture, benefiting various factories, markets, and projects in the region. Once complete, the Qushtapa Water Project will contribute to the long-term prosperity of the villages and communities in the broader Erbil province.
