KRG Official to Participate in Dublin Meeting on Yazidi Genocide

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Coordinator for International Advocacy, Dindar Zebari, will attend a key meeting in Dublin, Ireland, next Tuesday to discuss the genocide of Kurdish Yazidis. The meeting, organized by the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will focus on the crimes committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community, recognized internationally as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

In a statement to Kurdistan 24, Zebari confirmed the KRG’s participation and outlined the main topics for discussion. "We will highlight the latest efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government in pushing for the recognition of these crimes as genocide, as well as our work to prosecute ISIS terrorists, compensate the victims and their families, and liberate hostages," Zebari stated.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss the KRG's ongoing collaboration with the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh (UNITAD). Zebari emphasized that the KRG would present its future plans following the conclusion of UNITAD's mission, which is set to end on September 17, 2024, according to UN Security Council Resolution 2697.

Efforts to rescue ISIS hostages have made significant progress, Zebari noted, with approximately 3,576 individuals freed so far, including 1,210 women, 339 men, 1,070 girls, and 960 boys. Over 1,000 children have also been sent to Germany to receive medical treatment.

UNITAD’s mission is set to conclude after transferring critical information to the KRG. "In the first phase, on July 11, 2024, 45.95 GB of secure data from the judiciary was handed over, and on August 25, 2024, an additional 11.9 GB of information was provided regarding legal procedures for prosecuting ISIS terrorists," Zebari added.

Zebari highlighted the importance of KRG’s participation in international meetings, noting previous contributions in Berlin and New York. "These meetings are a valuable opportunity to showcase the KRG’s efforts to bring ISIS terrorists to justice at the international level," he said.
