In a significant move to bolster the athletic community, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has officially approved financial awards for athletes and sports teams from Kurdistan who achieve success in various competitions. This new initiative aims to reward those who secure top positions—first, second, or third place—in local, regional, national, continental, and international events.

The policy, announced by the Sports Directorates Organization, is designed to provide ongoing financial incentives to both individual athletes and teams. The rewards will be available to those excelling in a wide range of sports, from local championships to prestigious international tournaments, including the Asian continental and Iraqi national competitions.

"A great news for Kurdistan's singular and team champions!" proclaimed the Sports Directorate in a statement celebrating PM Barzani’s decision. The policy is a permanent measure intended to consistently support and encourage athletes at all levels.

This decision came after a formal request from the General Directorate of Sports at the Ministry of Culture and Youth. The official approval, detailed in letter No. 11582 dated August 29, 2024, was signed by Dr. Omed Sabah, the Diwan Chairman at the Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The letter was sent to the Ministry of Culture and Youth to outline the implementation of these financial awards.

Starting from Thursday, the Ministry of Finance and Economy has been directed to take necessary steps to facilitate the distribution of these payments, ensuring that the financial rewards are delivered to the deserving athletes and teams.

The General Directorate of Sports expressed its gratitude to PM Barzani and Dr. Omed Sabah for their unwavering support of Kurdish athletes and the broader sports community. This initiative underscores the KRG's commitment to promoting athletic excellence and providing substantial support to its champions.
