KRG Calls for Enhanced Support for Expatriate Women Returning to Kurdistan Region

Srwa Rasoul, Director of the Crisis and Coordination Center at the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Interior, has called for increased support for expatriate women returning to the Kurdistan Region. The call was made during a meeting with a United Nations (UN) delegation led by Ajay Madiwale, the UN Women's Representative ad interim in Iraq.

During the meeting, Rasoul emphasized the significant challenges and obstacles faced by women, particularly in humanitarian crises, as they seek to return home. She highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts to advance women's roles in the humanitarian sector, stressing the need for additional help and support for some women during the reintegration process.

"The Crisis and Coordination Center stands ready to provide all necessary assistance, coordination, and support to ensure the successful reintegration of returning women," Rasoul stated.

Ajay Madiwale, representing UN Women in Iraq, reaffirmed the UN's commitment to collaborating with the Joint Crisis Coordination Center and the High Council for Women's Affairs in the Kurdistan Region. He noted that UN Women is currently working on developing a regional plan for the third phase of their initiative, in partnership with the High Council for Women's Affairs.

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of supporting expatriate women as they navigate the complexities of returning to their homeland, particularly in the context of ongoing humanitarian challenges in the region.
