Ongoing Clashes Between PKK and Turkey Force Evacuation of 200 Villages in Kurdistan Region

Ongoing clashes between the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkey have forced the evacuation of 200 villages in the Kurdistan Region, severely impacting the local population and economy. Among the hardest-hit areas is Sidakan town within the Soran administration, north of Erbil province, where 118 villages have been evacuated.

The PKK's establishment of multiple bases and headquarters in the region has prompted Turkish military incursions extending up to 30 kilometers deep into Kurdish territory. This military action has not only affected Sidakan but also led to the evacuation of 65 villages in Mergasur town, 13 villages in Choman district, and four villages in Warte district of Rawanduz town. Life near the Qandil mountains remains perilous due to frequent Turkish airstrikes.

Ismail Abdullah, a wounded resident of Zargali village, expressed his concerns to Kurdistan 24, stating, “We hope that the lives of citizens will be protected and Iraq will speak out on its territory and citizens.”

Nighttime unrest prevails in the Bradost region due to the ongoing PKK-Turkey clashes. Sidakan Mayor Ihsan Chalabi reported to Kurdistan 24 that 32 citizens have been killed and numerous others injured in the past eight years of conflict.

The agriculture sector has suffered significantly, with intensified fighting preventing local farmers from utilizing their land. The ongoing conflict continues to disrupt daily life and economic activities in the affected areas, leaving many residents in a state of uncertainty and fear.

Local authorities and residents are calling for a resolution to the conflict and greater protection for civilians caught in the crossfire. The situation remains tense, with no immediate end to the hostilities in sight.
