Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Welcomes New Republic of Korea Consul General to Enhance Bilateral Relations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region - In a diplomatic exchange aimed at fostering stronger ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani warmly welcomed the newly appointed Consul General, Seungcheol Lim. The meeting, which took place on Sunday, saw Prime Minister Barzani extending his congratulations to Consul General Lim on his new role and expressing the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) full support for the diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani conveyed his best wishes for the success of Consul General Lim's endeavors, emphasizing the KRG's commitment to strengthening friendly relations between South Korea and the Kurdistan Region. The Prime Minister's office released a statement highlighting the government's eagerness to enhance cooperation and collaboration across various sectors.

Consul General Lim, who recently assumed his duties in the Kurdistan Region, reciprocated the warm reception by expressing his pleasure in representing the Republic of Korea in the region. He reiterated his country's keen interest in bolstering bilateral relations, particularly in the realms of economic development and leveraging South Korea's vast experience.

Consul General Lim succeeds his predecessor, Consul General Cho Kijoung, who concluded his duties in September of the previous year. Over the years, the Republic of Korea has played an active role in the Kurdistan Region, contributing to numerous development projects in collaboration with the KRG. Since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, South Korea has provided support for various initiatives, including health programs, reconstruction projects, and the construction of schools.

The diplomatic exchange underscores the continued commitment of both nations to furthering their partnership and exploring opportunities for mutual growth and cooperation. As the Republic of Korea seeks to strengthen ties with the Kurdistan Region, the new Consul General is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating enhanced collaboration in diverse fields.
