Canadian Parliamentary Delegation Meets with Kurdistan Regional Government

Today, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, received a parliamentary delegation from Canada, led by Member of Parliament Tom Kimzj. The meeting aimed to discuss and strengthen bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Canada.

At the outset of the meeting, the head of the Canadian parliamentary delegation provided an overview of the activities of the Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Kurds in the Canadian Parliament. This group comprises members from various Canadian political parties and is dedicated to supporting the Kurdish cause and enhancing relations with the Kurdistan Region.

The Canadian delegation also expressed their admiration for the peaceful coexistence, religious freedom, and freedom of the press in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the alignment of these principles with those found in Canada.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude to Canada for its support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region, particularly during the fight against ISIS terrorism.

In another part of the meeting, the Prime Minister shed light on the latest developments and updates regarding the relationship with the federal government of Iraq. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has fully complied with its constitutional obligations. However, he expressed concern and regret over the unlawful violation of the rights of the people of Kurdistan and the disregard for the agreements signed between the parties that formed the government, as well as the ministerial program that was approved by the majority in the Iraqi Parliament.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the people of Kurdistan will not relinquish their legitimate and constitutional rights under any circumstances. He also emphasized that they will not succumb to any pressure or threats from parties seeking to return Iraq to the era of dictatorship and suppress the people of Kurdistan.

The meeting between the Canadian parliamentary delegation and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region signifies a commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and addressing regional issues of mutual concern. It underscores the importance of international engagement in supporting the Kurdistan Region's pursuit of its rights and stability in the broader Iraqi context.
