Kurdistan Regional Government Seeks to Strengthen Trade and Investment Ties with Turkey

*In a joint news conference held on Thursday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated their commitment to regional security and economic cooperation.

Regional Security a Top Priority

Prime Minister Barzani opened the conference by emphasizing the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) unwavering commitment to ensuring that Kurdistan is not utilized as a launchpad for threats against neighboring nations or any other country. This pledge reflects the KRG's dedication to maintaining regional stability and fostering peaceful relations.

Resuming Crude Oil Exports a Priority

During their discussions, both leaders recognized the pressing need to restart Kurdistan's crude oil exports. Prime Minister Barzani expressed hope for a cooperative solution involving Turkey and the federal government of Iraq. He urged a swift resolution to the current suspension of crude oil exports, citing the Kurdistan Region's constitutional rights to manage its natural resources.

Strengthening Trade and Investment Relations

Prime Minister Barzani also conveyed the KRG's aspiration to enhance trade and investment ties with neighboring Turkey. The two sides are exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial economic cooperation, which would not only boost regional trade but also contribute to the prosperity of both regions.

Turkey's Commitment to Regional Stability

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan acknowledged the significance of Turkey's relations with both Baghdad and Erbil, emphasizing the importance of maintaining positive diplomatic ties. He commended the Kurdistan Region for its reputation of stability in a turbulent region and reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to working with Erbil and Baghdad to eliminate the threat posed by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The meeting between Prime Minister Barzani and Foreign Minister Fidan signals a continued effort to foster collaboration, address regional challenges, and promote economic growth and stability in the Kurdistan Region.
