Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Addresses Citizens, Stresses Reforms and Overcoming Challenges
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani held a town hall meeting in Erbil on Wednesday, engaging with citizens to address their concerns and discuss various pressing issues. During the meeting, he emphasized the government's commitment to implementing efficient reforms and acknowledged the need to address flaws within the governance system.
PM Barzani highlighted the potential benefits of electrification and digitization in streamlining government processes and improving service delivery for both the government and citizens. Despite facing obstacles such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the persistent threat of ISIS, he reassured the public that his government has consistently tackled crises and found timely solutions.
Expressing gratitude for the support, cooperation, and trust of the citizens, Barzani referred to it as the government's greatest achievement. He acknowledged the existence of shortcomings within the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and acknowledged external forces attempting to undermine the region's progress.
The Prime Minister revealed that some crises were locally generated due to conflicting interests or perceived threats to interests, leading to opposition against the government. Additionally, he acknowledged economic, legal, and security pressures imposed by external entities aiming to hinder the government's success. While many of these challenges have been overcome, Barzani highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with the public to address the remaining obstacles.
Barzani emphasized that the livelihood and well-being of the Kurdistan Region's citizens are of utmost importance to his government. He assured that despite the difficulties faced, salaries of KRG employees have been paid in a timely manner, expressing gratitude for the patience shown by the citizens.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to work with the Iraqi Federal Government to address areas of disagreement and find common ground. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region will continue to defend the rights of its people and seek peaceful resolutions to outstanding issues within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution.
