Turkish Drone Attack Kills Kurdish Officials in Northeast Syria

In a recent drone attack in northeast Syria, two Kurdish local officials and their driver were killed near Qamishli, according to officials.

Yusra Darwish, co-chairperson of the town's council, and her deputy, Liman Shweish, were among the victims.

The Kurdish-led authority in the region condemned the strike, which is part of a series of Turkish military operations targeting Kurdish officials and fighters. Turkey claims that the main Syrian Kurdish militia is affiliated with the PKK, a banned Kurdish group responsible for an insurgency against Turkey since 1984.

The incident occurred as talks aimed at resolving the broader Syrian conflict began in Astana, Kazakhstan. Efforts to reconcile Syria and Turkey, which supports opposition fighters, have been slow.
