Kurdistan Region Collaborates with EU on Eco-Friendly Electricity and Electric Car Charging Stations
On Tuesday, May 23, the Minister of Electricity for the Kurdistan Region, Kamal Mohammad Salih, met with Dr. Torkild Byg, the head of the European Union (EU) Liaison Office in Erbil. The meeting focused on fostering eco-friendly electricity generation, clean energy initiatives, and the establishment of charging stations for electric cars.
During the discussions, Minister Salih highlighted the significant progress made in eco-friendly electricity generation during the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government. He stated that the region currently has 1,928 MW of electricity generation that is environmentally friendly.
To further support clean energy initiatives, Minister Salih announced that the Ministry of Electricity is fully prepared to issue permissions and provide necessary facilitation for projects intending to construct charging stations for electric cars in the Kurdistan Region. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to promoting sustainable transportation options and reducing carbon emissions.
The head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil, Dr. Torkild Byg, commended the Ministry of Electricity for its efforts in protecting the environment and combating climate change. He emphasized the importance of strengthening environmental protection measures through dedicated environment departments. Dr. Byg also urged the Kurdistan Region to facilitate the process of establishing charging stations for electric cars, recognizing their significance in promoting a cleaner and greener transportation system.
