More than 20 missiles were fired by Israel at pro-Iranian militias in Syria
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Israeli forces stationed near the Syria-Lebanon border, on Monday, fired a series of missiles towards the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in Syria, with the target being Lebanon's Hezbollah group.
No casualties have been reported so far. Israel had recently launched artillery strikes against Syria after rockets were fired into Golan Heights from Syria.
In April 2022, a rocket from Lebanon prompted an Israeli military response in the form of air strikes in Lebanon. The two countries are technically at war with each other, and a ceasefire is being monitored by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL).
Throughout Syria's civil war, Israel has carried out numerous airstrikes in areas controlled by the Syrian regime, claiming to target pro-Iran militias, including Hezbollah, which supports the Syrian army. However, Israel seldom takes responsibility for attacks on Syria.
The Golan Heights were previously under Syrian control but were captured by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967 and annexed in 1981, though this is not recognized by most of the international community.
