Iraq Evacuates Diplomatic Staff from Sudan Amid Ongoing Violenc

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evacuated its diplomatic staff from Sudan amid ongoing fights between military rivals in the African country. Ahmed Al-Sahaf, the ministry’s spokesperson, confirmed the evacuation on Saturday but did not provide details on how many diplomats were involved. The move follows similar actions taken by the US and other nations, which have pulled their nationals and diplomats out of the conflict-ridden country. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 400 people have been killed and thousands wounded in the ongoing violence.

The conflict in Sudan has claimed the lives of at least four United Nations staffers so far. On Saturday, Saudi officials announced the evacuation of 150 Saudis and nationals from other countries, including Canadians, Indians, and Qataris.

The fighting began on April 15 between forces loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the army’s commander, and the head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedit. The Western and regional countries have called for a ceasefire across the country to end the ongoing violence.

The situation in Sudan remains tense and unpredictable, with many international organizations urging all sides to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The evacuation of foreign nationals and diplomats highlights the severity of the situation and the need for a quick resolution.
