President Nechirvan Barzani received a letter from Ms. Annalena Baerbock, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, thanking the President for the warm welcome she received while visiting the Kurdistan Region during March 7-10.

In her letter, Ms. Baerbock reaffirms the continued support of her country to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and highlights the extended German troop presence in the Kurdistan Region. Ms. Baerbock also expresses Germany’s gratitude to the Kurdistan Region for hosting the refugees, especially the Christian and Yezidi refugees, who have been sheltered in the Kurdistan Region since 2014 following the ISIS onslaught.

In this regard, Ms. Baerbock underscores her country’s support for the return of the refugees to their home areas, encouraging the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to discuss and work on this issue. She also stresses that Germany considers it important to seriously address the threats of climate change in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
