ERBIL - Kurdish prominent leader and former president of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, received on Wednesday evening the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

He later met with Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council Masrour Barzani and Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.

No official statements have yet been made by the officials.

Earlier the day, the US official met with the Iraqi top leaders in Baghdad, including President Barham Salih, PM Adil Abdul-Mahdi, and Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi for talks on bilateral ties, regional affairs such as the Syria withdrawal and sanctions on Iran.

This is Pompeo's first visit to Baghdad since he has taken the office, while Iraq was not mentioned in his destination list published by the State Department, reportedly for security concerns.
