On December 16, 2013, PM Nechirvan Barzani received Robert Stephen Beecroft, United States Ambassador to Iraq. The main theme of the meeting was to discuss the latest political and security conditions in Iraq, as well as the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

Another aspect of the meeting was about the Syrian refugees residing in Kurdistan Region, and the Ambassador praised the role of KRG in caring and sheltering the refugees. PM Barzani, on his side, hoped that everybody will work hand in hand with KRG to better help the Syrian refugees. He, for this reason, asked the USA and the international community to fulfill their duties regarding the refugees.

Barzani also thanked UNAMI and UNHCR for their role in helping the refugees and hoped that the US Government will do its best to motivate the humanitarian organizations in the United States to provide aid and help for the refugees.

Finally, Barzani and the ambassador discussed the idea of residing the refugees within the Syrian Borders. The American side welcomed the idea and promised it will discuss and work on the idea with international organizations.
