Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani yesterday met with members of British parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Iraqi Kurdistan Region Nadhim Zahawi, Meg Munn, Robert Halfon, and Mike Gapes.

The meeting between the President and the British members of parliament focused on the recent parliamentary elections held in Kurdistan, the political and security situation in Kurdistan, and efforts to seek recognition of the Kurdish genocide in the UK.

On the recent parliamentary elections in Kurdistan held on September 21st, Nadhim Zahawi expressed his congratulations to the people of the Kurdistan Region. He said, “We offer our congratulations for holding successful elections. Kurdistan is truly a beacon for the rest of the region. We are very pleased that the elections went ahead without any incidents.”

President Barzani thanked the members of the British parliamentary group for their efforts in the British parliament.

"The people of Kurdistan truly appreciate the work that you have done to seek recognition for the Kurdish genocide. We offer full Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) support to your efforts. What you have achieved is very encouraging to our people," said the President, adding that the most important thing is that what happened to the Kurds should not be forgotten.

They also discussed efforts currently underway to form the new KRG government, relations between the KRG and Turkey, and the situation of Syrian refugees in Kurdistan.
