President Barzani welcomes a special envoy from the US Secretary of State

December 22 (Gulan Media)- Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani on Saturday welcomed Brett Mcgurk, a special envoy from the US Secretary of State, to discuss the ongoing tensions between Erbil and Baghdad.

Envoy Brett Mcgurk reiterated the view of The United States on the matter, saying both sides should rely on dialogue to defuse the current crisis, hoping to solve the tensions based on the constitution and the previous political agreements. He further pointed to his meetings with senior Iraqi officials and expressed his concern on the current crisis.

President Barzani emphasized that the problem is related to the governance in Iraq and should be solved radically. He confirmed that Kurdistan Region will not be an obstacle in front of any step which intended to solve the tension and that what is happening right now is a result rather than a cause and should be dealt with it logically. Moreover, the president revealed that the military delegations of both sides will meet soon, hoping this time take the problems seriously and he reaffirmed his concern to meet with Kurdish political parties so as to consult them about the matter.
