Baghdad bars Kirkuk authorities from building dams
The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources in Baghdad impedes building a number of dams the Kirkuk authorities had already planned to do, said head of the city’s office of Water Resources.
The Ministry of Water Resources bars office of Water Resources’ projects from building 20 dams in Kirkuk after the office decided to implement those projects, Sahab Hakim head of the office told PUKmedia.

“Even if the Kirkuk Provincial Council allocates adequate budget to those projects, the Ministry of Water Resources would not support them in the excuse of estimating the total water available in the country,” said Hakim.

“The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources has warned us that if we build those dams no water flows to Ozem dam, but the Kirkuk administration consistently attempts to implement the projects,” he added.

Hakim stated that Shirin, Pulkana and Khasa dams are under constructions that will soon be completed, adding that there are also six more dams included in the Kirkuk administration’s framework.
