Parties united in leaving commission seats as they are, says Tayfur
– The second deputy of parliament speaker said the majority of political parties agree to keep the number of High Electoral Commission seats as they are.
The Iraqi Parliament will vote on increasing or maintaining the number of seats on Monday.

Arf Tayfur said: "Parliament members will vote on a number of draft laws on Monday including the High Electoral Commission and the Supreme Judiciary Council."

Tayfur expects MPs to vote on keeping the number of seats. The Kurdistan Blocs Coalition will vote on maintaining the number the seats.

Iraqi Parliament MP from the Kurdistan Islamic Komal said: "There are various opinions about increasing or keeping the number of commission seats.

"We will vote in the way the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition prefers and in the interest of Kurds."

The parliament will vote on whether the commission remains at nine members or increases to 15. If the seats increase to 15, Kurds would receive one more seat. Kurds now have two seats, said Iraqi MP Muayad Tayeb.

At the beginning 60 applicants submitted their request to be a member of the commission. After counting and sorting them the number reduced to 30. Five of them are Kurds, added the MP.
