Iraqi Parliament to vote on High Electoral Commission
– Iraq’s Parliament is voting on the new Iraqi High Electoral Commission in today's session, said the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition.
Muayad Taib said: “All the preparation for voting on the members of the commission have been completed and today the parliament will vote on the commission.

"The parliament will vote on whether the commission remains at nine members or to vote on increasing it to 15. If the seats increase to 15, Kurds would receive one more seat. Kurds now have two seats.

"At the beginning 60 applicants submitted their request to be a member of the commission. After counting and sorting them the number reduced to 30. Five of them are Kurds."

An anonymous source from Iraq’s Parliament said on Thursday that there is a possibility of extending the function of the commission to an unspecified date.

The head of the commission said there is a possibility of extending the commission's function to next year but despite that the commission will not be able to hold the provincial council elections until next year.

Faraj Haidari said: "So far nothing has been done as preparation for holding the provincial elections because we have many legal issues in front of us.

"The budget for the elections has still not been given. The election law has not been modified yet and the date of the elections has not been fixed. Even if all of the issues were sorted, we’d still not be able to hold the elections until after the middle of next year."
