Iraqi army will not be deployed at disputed areas, says MP
The Iraqi force stationed near Zummar district will not be deployed at the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad governments and a delegation from the MPs is likely to investigate the reason behind the recent tension between Iraqi army and Kurdish forces.

After violence in Syria paced up and rebels controlled the borders, the Iraqi army expedited force to the joint borders of Nineveh and Anbar provinces with Syria.

However, peshmarga (Kurdistan border guards) prevents the advance of the Iraqi army into the areas in disputed area under their control, regarding army's deployment in the area as "occupation."

Both Kurdistan Ministry of Peshmarga and Iraqi Ministry of Defense have worked out an agreement for settling this issue, said Hassan Jihad, a member of the Defense and Security Committee.

The peshmarga and the Iraqi army force that have been positioned against each other near Zummar district currently will be scattered and the Iraqi force will be stationed on the Iraqi-Syrian border without stepping into the areas covered by article 140, according to Jihad.

The article sets a roadmap for resolving the dispute over the ownership of some multiethnic areas, including Zummar. Forces from the Iraqi army and peshmarga jointly protect the area.

Since the Defense and Security Committee did not want to address the issue of the Iraqi army deployment at borders inside the Council of Representatives, the committee has not prepared any report, said Jihad.

He added however today the committee will propose sending a delegation to the Kurdistan Region to meet with Ministry of Peshmarga for details of the recent tension and in order to review the previous agreements between Erbil and Baghdad over military affairs.

Shuwan Mohammed Taha, another Kurdish MP at the committee, said the issue of army deployment at Zummar and Rabi'a districts is being resolved.
