Electoral commission suspends preparations for Kurdistan provincial voting
The decision was taken after the Kurdistan Region Parliament agreed yesterday to delay Sept. 27 voting , upon a demand by IHEC, until an unidentified date, said IHEC Chief Faraj al-Hairdari.
Some shortcomings, including a "violation against the minorities" in the elections law, pushed the IHEC to demand postponing the process, according to Haidri.
It's seven years that the current provincial councils have been installed.
The IHEC's term ended April 28 but ten days before the term expiry the Iraqi House of Representatives voted to extend the IHEC's term for three month. In the additional duration the IHEC enjoys its full authorities.
