Soran District to Feature Iraq’s Tallest Bridge and New Highway

Following the foundation stone laying by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, construction has officially begun on the 40-metre road project in Soran.
The five-kilometres-long highway will feature three lanes in each direction, alongside a 2.5-metre-wide pedestrian pavement on both sides. A key highlight of the project is a 250-metre-long hydraulic bridge standing 32 metres high, making it the tallest bridge in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The bridge alone is estimated to cost IQD 28 billion, while the total project budget stands at IQD 50.5 billion.
This highway will enhance connectivity between the Soran and Mergasur districts, modernising the area’s infrastructure and providing significant benefits to local communities.
The KRG’s ninth cabinet remains committed to advancing strategic infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on road development.
