President Masoud Barzani Meets High-Ranking Iranian Delegation in Erbil

President Masoud Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with a high-ranking Iranian delegation at his office in Erbil to discuss bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.
The Iranian delegation was led by Majid Takht Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs. The discussions focused on strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation between the two sides. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in various sectors, emphasizing shared interests as a foundation for continued engagement.
In addition to bilateral ties, the meeting addressed Iraq’s evolving political landscape and broader regional developments. The discussions highlighted the complexities of ongoing changes in the Middle East, with both sides stressing the importance of sustained dialogue and cooperation to address emerging challenges.
The Kurdistan Region and Iran have a longstanding history of political, economic, and cultural ties. Iran has played a key role in Iraq’s political affairs since 2003 and has maintained close relationships with Kurdish political groups. Additionally, economic cooperation between the two sides remains strong, particularly in energy exports and cross-border trade.
