President Nechirvan Barzani met with Major General Kevin Leahy, Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.

Their meeting covered the security situation in Iraq and Syria, focusing on the activities and dangers to regional peace and stability posed by the terrorist organization ISIS. Both sides emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, alongside the International Coalition, to combat terrorism and the ISIS threat.

They also shared perspectives on the recent developments in the reform process within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and efforts toward the reunification of the Peshmerga. In this context, they acknowledged the establishment of the 3rd and 4th Infantry Divisions under the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs as a significant advancement and reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring the success of this initiative.

The meeting also touched on the repercussions of general circumstances in the Middle East, particularly recent developments in Syria and their effect on the surrounding region.
