PM Masrour Barzani Holds High-Level Meetings in Davos on Regional and International Issues
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, held a series of high-level meetings today on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. His discussions focused on key regional and international issues, including developments in Iraq, Syria, and Gaza, as well as enhancing bilateral relations with various nations.
Meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres
In a significant meeting, Prime Minister Barzani met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the political and economic situation in Iraq. The talks addressed ongoing disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Baghdad, with both parties emphasizing the importance of respecting constitutional rights and ensuring the region’s financial entitlements.
Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in mediating disputes and fostering peace and stability in Iraq.
The discussion also covered pressing Middle Eastern issues, including the Gaza ceasefire and the crisis in Syria. Both leaders stressed the need to sustain the ceasefire in Gaza and called for increased international efforts to maintain peace and stability in Syria.
Strengthening Ties with Jordan
Prime Minister Barzani also met with Jordan’s Crown Prince, Hussein bin Abdullah II. The Crown Prince highlighted the enduring friendship between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region, expressing Jordan's readiness to deepen cooperation in various fields.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked King Abdullah II and the Jordanian government for their consistent support for the Kurdistan Region. The leaders also discussed the Syrian situation, emphasizing the importance of preserving peace and ensuring the rights of all communities in the country.
Discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schove
In another key meeting, Prime Minister Barzani held talks with the Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schove. Both leaders underlined the significance of strengthening bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
The discussions also addressed the evolving situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Syria. They agreed on the importance of international support to establish an inclusive Syrian government that ensures representation and participation for all communities.
