Rocket Fired From Yemen Injures 16 in Tel Aviv
Sixteen people were injured overnight when a rocket launched from Yemen struck Tel Aviv, according to Israeli emergency services. The Israeli military confirmed an attempted interception of the missile had failed.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels later claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a ballistic missile strike targeting “a military site of the Israeli enemy.”
The injured, all of whom suffered minor injuries from shattered glass, are receiving medical treatment, according to the Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom.
Rising Houthi Attacks on Israel
The attack marks the second Houthi missile strike on Israel in just two days and is part of a broader escalation of hostilities. Since the Gaza war began over a year ago, the Iran-backed Houthis have launched repeated rocket and drone strikes on Israel in what they call solidarity with Palestinians.
According to the Times of Israel, the Houthis have launched approximately 200 rockets and 170 drones at Israel in the past 12 months. They have also targeted ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, intensifying tensions in the region.
On Thursday, a Houthi missile strike damaged a school in Israel, prompting Israeli airstrikes on ports in Yemen and the capital, Sanaa.
Netanyahu Warns of Severe Retaliation
In response to the Houthi attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stark warning.
"After Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Assad regime in Syria, the Houthis are almost the last remaining arm of Iran's axis of evil," Netanyahu said in a statement. "The Houthis are learning and will learn the hard way, that those who strike Israel will pay a very heavy price for it."
Israel has vowed to continue responding to attacks with force, escalating a volatile situation that has already seen significant violence across the region.
