Kurdish Leaders Extend Warm Wishes to Yezidi Community on Feast of Êzî

Erbil, Kurdistan Region — Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani have extended heartfelt congratulations to the Yezidi community on the occasion of the Feast of Êzî. Their messages emphasized peace, unity, and coexistence within Kurdistan and beyond.

In his statement, President Masoud Barzani conveyed warm wishes to the Yezidi community in Kurdistan and around the world. “I hope this celebration becomes a new beginning for the peace and prosperity of all Yezidi brothers and sisters,” he stated. The president underscored the importance of fostering coexistence and harmony among all religious and ethnic communities in the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani echoed this sentiment in his message, reaffirming his commitment to solidarity and support for the Yezidi community. “This sacred day reminds us to strengthen the values of coexistence and unity, ensuring peace and prosperity for all communities in Kurdistan,” he said.

The Feast of Êzî is one of the most significant religious occasions for Yezidis, marking a day of prayer, reflection, and communal gatherings. Rooted in the Yezidi faith, one of the world’s oldest monotheistic religions, the celebration holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Yezidis primarily reside in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with smaller communities in Syria, Armenia, and Georgia.

This year’s celebration also serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the Yezidi community, which has faced immense challenges in recent history. In 2014, ISIS militants launched a brutal campaign of genocide against Yezidis, leading to mass killings, enslavement, and the destruction of historical and religious sites. Thousands of Yezidis were displaced, with many still residing in camps.

In response to these atrocities, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has been actively working to rebuild Yezidi villages, support displaced families, and seek international recognition of the genocide. Efforts continue to ensure the safe return of displaced Yezidis and the restoration of their communities.

The messages from President Barzani and Prime Minister Barzani highlight the Kurdistan Region’s ongoing commitment to preserving its multicultural fabric. Both leaders emphasized solidarity across all religious and ethnic groups, reiterating the region’s dedication to fostering peace, unity, and coexistence.

The Feast of Êzî stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Yezidi people. As they gather for prayer, reflection, and celebration, the messages from the region’s leadership reinforce a shared vision for a future rooted in peace and mutual respect.
