Kurdistan Region’s Sixth Parliamentary Term Kicks Off with Inaugural Session

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Region’s Parliament convened its first session of the sixth term on Monday at 12:40 PM, with the attendance of 97 elected representatives. The session, held under the guidance of parliamentary procedures, marked the beginning of a new legislative cycle.

Mohammed Sulaiman, the oldest elected candidate from the New Generation Movement, was selected to chair the inaugural session, as stipulated by the Parliament’s rules and regulations.

The session commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a moment of silence to honor the sacrifices of Kurdistan’s martyrs. The Chief of Diwan of the Kurdistan Parliament formally called upon Sulaiman to take his oath and assume the role of chair for the session. This process aligns with the provisions in the 2nd Paragraph of Article 11 and the 1st Paragraph of Article 12 of the Parliament’s rules and regulations.

During the session, Sulaiman oversaw the swearing-in of the newly elected members. Per the 2nd Paragraph of Article 12, the legal oaths were administered to all members, officially enabling them to assume their legislative duties.

The opening ceremony was attended by 19 Consul Generals and diplomats, highlighting the significance of the event and its international diplomatic interest.

This sixth parliamentary term represents a crucial period for the Kurdistan Region as its representatives prepare to address pressing issues and navigate the challenges of governance in the region.
