Kurdistan PM Meets UK Home Secretary to Discuss Bilateral Relations and Key Issues

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, met yesterday with British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, the two leaders explored ways to bolster bilateral relations, with a particular focus on tackling illegal migration. The British Home Secretary extended her congratulations to Prime Minister Barzani on the successful Kurdistan Parliament elections, describing the process as a significant achievement.

Home Secretary Cooper also underscored the Kurdistan Region's vital role as a strategic partner for the UK in combating terrorism and addressing regional and global security challenges.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude for the continued support and assistance provided by the United Kingdom, emphasizing the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to strengthening relations in various sectors to advance mutual interests.

The two sides reached an agreement on the need to enhance coordination and cooperation in addressing pressing issues such as illegal migration, organized crime, and drug trafficking.

Discussions also touched on the reforms being implemented by the KRG, particularly in the digitization of public services and the development of the banking system. Special attention was given to the MyAccount project, which aims to modernize and streamline financial services in the region.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to deepen ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom, particularly in areas of mutual concern such as security, migration, and economic development.
