KDP Official: Tenth KRG Cabinet Likely to Be Formed by Early February
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – A senior member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has announced that the formation of the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) could be finalized by the end of January or early February, provided legal procedures proceed smoothly.
Hemn Hawrami, a member of the KDP’s Political Bureau, confirmed on Wednesday that the party is committed to collaborating with all political groups and emphasized the importance of forming the cabinet promptly to address pressing issues such as reform, economic improvement, and relations with Baghdad.
Speaking at a news conference, Hawrami stated, “The KDP is open to engagement with all political parties, without vetoes, to establish a unified government and Peshmerga force. We ask all parties, whether in opposition or part of the upcoming cabinet, to take responsibility for the political situation shaped by the Kurdish people.”
Hawrami outlined the steps for the cabinet formation process, noting that the first session of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament is set for Monday, December 2. During this session, members will take their oaths, after which the President of the Kurdistan Region will be elected.
"The President will then appoint the nominee for Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, to form the tenth cabinet. This process is expected to take no longer than 30 days, aligning with the legal timeline. If everything proceeds smoothly, the cabinet will be established by late January or early February,” he added.
Hawrami highlighted the KDP’s intention to promote understanding and collaboration across political lines. "Our message is one of brotherhood and mutual understanding with all parties. The political situation in Iraq, coupled with preparations for future elections, presents challenges, but we must prioritize the well-being of the Kurdish people,” he said.
In a related development, Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, announced on Tuesday, November 26, that President Nechirvan Barzani has directed the newly elected Parliament to hold its inaugural session on Monday, December 2.
The formation of the tenth cabinet marks a crucial step in addressing the region’s political and economic challenges, with expectations of a collaborative approach to governance.
