Voting for Sixth Session of Kurdistan Parliament Underway with Over 2.6 Million Eligible Voters

Voting for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament commenced at 7 a.m. today across cities in the Kurdistan Region. A total of 2,686,578 eligible voters are participating in the election, casting ballots in four major constituencies: Erbil, Duhok, Sulaymaniyah, and Halabja.

A highly competitive race is underway, with 1,191 candidates vying for 100 parliamentary seats. The candidates are distributed across the constituencies as follows: 395 in Erbil, 516 in Sulaymaniyah, 266 in Duhok, and 54 in Halabja.

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has established 1,266 polling stations across the region, equipped with 6,318 polling booths to ensure a smooth voting process.

Voter Breakdown by Constituency:

Erbil: 933,115 voters
Sulaymaniyah: 1,008,412 voters
Duhok: 682,791 voters
Halabja: 59,300 voters
Polling Stations by Constituency:

Erbil: 498 polling stations, 2,213 polling booths
Sulaymaniyah: 477 polling stations, 2,373 polling booths
Duhok: 264 polling stations, 1,596 polling booths

The election process is being closely monitored by 35,072 political party observers from various political groups, including 12 parties in Erbil, 15 in Sulaymaniyah, 17 in Duhok, and two in Halabja. Additionally, 5,274 local observers and 655 international observers, including representatives from 14 consulates and international organizations, are overseeing the vote.

Special voting held on October 18 reported an impressive 97 percent turnout, according to IHEC.

The results of the parliamentary elections are expected to be announced shortly after the conclusion of today's voting process.
