Iran Vows to Hold Israel Accountable for Assassination of Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Iran will utilize “all its capabilities” to hold Israel accountable for the killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan, who was assassinated in Lebanon on September 27. Nilforoushan was reportedly killed during an Israeli operation targeting Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.

In an official statement, the ministry expressed condolences to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian people, and the family of the slain commander, referring to Nilforoushan as a "great martyr."

"The criminal history of the Zionist entity, from its inception to this day, shows that tolerating its attacks and crimes makes it bolder and increases the magnitude of its crimes," the statement declared. The ministry condemned the assassination as an "unlawful act" and vowed to hold Israel accountable, stating, "there is no doubt that Iran will use all its capabilities to hold the Zionist entity accountable for this crime."

The assassination of Nilforoushan, a prominent commander in Iran's elite Quds Force, took place during a meeting with Nasrallah in the southern suburbs of Beirut. On Friday, Ayatollah Abu Al-Hasan Mahdavi, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in Isfahan, confirmed the discovery of Nilforoushan’s body.

Iran's statement follows growing tensions in the region as Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza continue. Iran has reiterated its support for Hezbollah and other regional allies, and Nilforoushan's assassination is likely to escalate hostilities between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
