Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today laid the foundation stone for the largest cancer treatment hospital in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The new facility, located in Erbil, is set to be built to the highest international standards.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the significance of the project, noting its critical role in treating cancer patients both from within the region and across Iraq. He commended the medical staff for their exceptional efforts and reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

Barzani stressed the urgent need for continued reforms in the healthcare sector, stating that the government is working with international experts to improve healthcare quality and the availability of effective medications. “Our goal is to provide the best possible care for our citizens,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of developing both public and private healthcare sectors in tandem, with a specific focus on improving services in public hospitals. As part of this effort, pilot projects are underway to upgrade several facilities, including Rizgari Hospital in Erbil.

Barzani acknowledged the growing cancer rates in the region, similar to global trends, and called for increased efforts to address the disease’s causes and improve treatment options. He affirmed the government's support for the cancer patient fund, which aims to reduce the financial burden on patients, and encouraged contributions from the private sector and the public to support the fund.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the region's advanced medical capabilities, praising local doctors for their dedication to providing top-tier care.

Concluding his speech, Barzani reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting patients throughout their treatment and expressed his hopes for the timely completion of the hospital, which is expected to serve citizens from both the Kurdistan Region and across Iraq.
