Masoud Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), held a meeting with Jordan's Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Mousa Al Hanifat, and his delegation on Monday to discuss key issues affecting regional stability, political developments, and bilateral relations.
During the meeting, held in Salhaddin, the Jordanian Minister lauded the Kurdistan Region's resilience and progress despite facing numerous challenges. He expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and reconstruction.
Barzani, in turn, highlighted the close and brotherly relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Jordan, referring to King Abdullah of Jordan as a close friend. He emphasized the historical ties between the two regions and underscored the importance of further strengthening these relationships, according to an official statement from his office.
The discussions also touched upon the broader political situation in Iraq and the challenges impacting regional stability, with both sides agreeing on the necessity of continued collaboration to address these issues.
This meeting followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Sunday, overseen by the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister. The agreement between the Ministries of Agriculture of the Kurdistan Region and Jordan aims to bolster cooperation in agriculture and the food industry, with a particular focus on the import of potatoes.
