KDP President Masoud Barzani Calls for Justice on 36th Anniversary of Anfal Genocide in Badinan

In a solemn address commemorating the 36th anniversary of the Anfal genocide in Badinan, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdish nation's unwavering demand for justice and recognition of their suffering.

President Barzani reflected on the harrowing events that took place between August 25 and September 6, 1988, when the Iraqi regime launched a brutal campaign in the Badinan region. The campaign included chemical attacks, mass arrests, killings, deportations, and forced disappearances, marking the final phase of the Anfal genocide. Thousands of Kurdish citizens were martyred or went missing during this period, and hundreds of villages were destroyed, displacing tens of thousands of people.

“These inhuman crimes aimed to exterminate the Kurdish nation,” President Barzani stated. “But they could not break our spirit or extinguish our yearning for freedom.”

On this poignant anniversary, President Barzani paid tribute to the martyrs of the Anfal genocide and all those who have sacrificed their lives for Kurdistan. He called on the Iraqi government to acknowledge its responsibility for the atrocities and to compensate the victims and their families.

"We strongly insist on the legitimate rights of our people," President Barzani declared. "These crimes must not be forgotten."

The President's message serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of the Anfal genocide and the ongoing struggle for justice and recognition for the Kurdish people.
