Global Internet Outage Causes Chaos, Erbil International Airport Remains Unaffected

While a massive internet outage wreaks havoc on airports, companies, and essential services worldwide, Erbil International Airport stands resilient, operating without disruptions.

Smooth Operations at Erbil International Airport

Ahmed Hoshyar, the director of Erbil International Airport, assured travelers and stakeholders today that flights at Erbil Airport are proceeding as scheduled. "Flights at Erbil Airport are operating normally, and no issues have occurred," Hoshyar told Kurdistan24.

He further emphasized, "So far, the electronic issue has not reached the Middle East, and there are no electronic or technical problems at Erbil International Airport." Hoshyar confirmed that no flights have been canceled at the airport, ensuring continued service for travelers.

Global Disruptions

Meanwhile, the rest of the world grapples with significant disruptions. The American news agency "Associated Press" reported a global internet outage affecting airlines, banks, media outlets, and offices from the United States to Australia. This outage has led to halted operations in various sectors.

In Europe, Berlin Airport has suspended flights until 08:00 GMT due to delays in passenger check-in caused by a technical glitch, as announced by the airport operator on the "X" platform.

Widespread Airline Issues

Three Indian airlines, including IndiGo, have reported problems with their booking systems due to a Microsoft outage. In a message on the X platform, IndiGo stated, "Our systems are currently experiencing a Microsoft outage."

Air France has also been impacted, with operations affected "at some stations" due to a widespread IT malfunction. However, the airline noted that in-flight operations were not disrupted. Departing and arriving flights at Charles de Gaulle and Roissy airports, the main hubs for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, are operating normally, according to the "Airports of Paris" group.

Dutch Airports and Airlines Affected

Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, one of Europe's busiest, announced it was affected by a global IT malfunction, impacting flights at both Schiphol and Eindhoven Airport. Transavia Airlines and Dutch hospitals are also experiencing issues. KLM, another major airline, has suspended "a significant portion" of its operations due to the malfunction.

Turkish Airlines and Others

Turkish Airlines reported difficulties with booking systems, passenger check-in, and ticket issuance due to the global technical glitch. The airline’s helpdesk stated on the "X" platform that efforts are underway to resolve the issue.

Broad Impact Across Sectors

The global technical disruption has affected operations in various countries, including Spanish airports, Turkish Airlines, media outlets, and Australian banks, highlighting the widespread impact of this significant internet outage.

Despite the global turmoil, Erbil International Airport continues to function smoothly, providing a rare pocket of normalcy amid the chaos.
