Iraqi Security Forces Arrest Drug Traffickers in Al-Diwaniyah, Seize Drones and Narcotics
Iraqi security forces have apprehended two drug traffickers in possession of narcotics and drones in Al-Diwaniyah province, southern Iraq.
In a statement released on Monday, July 15, 2024, the Ministry of Interior detailed that a security force, supported by intelligence efforts, successfully captured two suspects wanted by the judiciary for drug trafficking in Al-Diwaniyah.
During the operation, security personnel seized four drones, a quantity of crystal meth, a pistol, and a magazine from the suspects. Additionally, a "Kozan torch head," used for making drug consumption vials, was confiscated.
The Ministry confirmed that legal procedures have been initiated against the suspects, and they have been referred to the judiciary for further action.
This announcement follows a report from the Federal Ministry of Interior spokesman, Muqdad Miri, on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Miri highlighted the ministry's key activities from the beginning of the year until the end of June, comparing current statistics with those from previous years. He noted a general decrease in rates of corruption, bribery, embezzlement, forgery, and various crimes, including drug-related offenses. However, he pointed out a 6% increase in suicide rates.
Miri also mentioned that Basra showed the most significant improvement in crime rates with a 28% reduction, while Muthanna experienced the worst increase, with a 4% rise in crime rates.
