Kurdistan Region Provides Financial Assistance to Yezidi Survivors of Islamic State Crimes
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced a significant financial assistance program to support Yezidi survivors of Islamic State (IS) crimes. This initiative aims to provide substantial aid and encourage the survivors to rebuild their lives with purpose and dignity.
Harman Mirza Beg, Advisor to the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister for Yezidi Community Affairs, stated in an interview with BasNews on Sunday that Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has been a steadfast advocate for the Yezidi community, particularly those who have endured the atrocities committed by IS. "The Kurdistan Region and the Prime Minister himself are always concerned about the Yezidis," Beg said. "There are several future projects, especially for Sinjar, focusing on the psychological treatment of survivors, as well as initiatives for those who have been excluded from education."
Beg detailed that more than 3,000 individuals will receive financial assistance through the cultural and social center. This support is part of a broader strategy by the KRG to ensure the well-being of the Yezidi survivors. The advisor highlighted ongoing and future projects aimed at providing comprehensive aid, including psychological treatment and educational opportunities for those affected by the conflict.
Furthermore, Beg emphasized the KRG's commitment to the implementation of the Sinjar agreement, which seeks to allow Yezidis to return to their ancestral homeland without external interference. This agreement is seen as crucial for the prosperity and stability of the Yezidi community in Sinjar.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Barzani announced the launch of this financial assistance program in Erbil. "This program is a monthly donation to more than 3,000 Yezidi sisters who survived IS’s heinous crimes," Barzani stated. "With the improvement of the financial situation, the level of our assistance to these loved ones will expand. We will provide all necessary support to ensure they have a decent life and heal a small part of their wounds, especially in finding job opportunities, continuing their education, and receiving medical treatment."
The KRG's initiative is a significant step toward providing the necessary resources for Yezidi survivors to rebuild their lives, ensuring they have the support needed to move forward from the trauma inflicted by IS.
