Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani extended his congratulations to the newly elected President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter sent on Saturday.

In the letter, Al-Sudani expressed his hopes for Pezeshkian's success in his new role, emphasizing the "depth of relations between the two friendly neighboring countries and the importance of continuing coordination at the highest levels and in all fields, in order to serve common interests," according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office.

The Iranian Ministry of Interior announced that Pezeshkian secured over 16 million votes, accounting for 53.67% of the total, defeating his main rival, Jalili, who received 13 million votes, or 44.34%.
